Competing against a select field of contenders which included banking behemoth HSBC and top shipping law firm Holman Fenwick Willan LLP, DNVPS clinched the award on Thursday, Oct 7, for its quality practices and contributions to promoting the highest standards in marine fuel management.
The accolade capped a year of intense lobbying by DNVPS during the revision of the ISO 8217 marine fuel quality specification; followed by a series of conferences and round-table discussions organised around the world to inform the shipping community about the finalised fuel specification, as well as important changes in environmental regulations and related technological developments.
Along the way, DNVPS kept up its innovation drive to launch several new services, such as the improved BunkerMaster software, Global Distillate Quality Statistics, Catalyst Fine Particle Size Distribution Screening, and the Headspace Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry fuel quality investigative service.
“Being feted as the best in Asia – an integral part of global shipping – is a great honour. The award recognises the collective efforts of our staff in consistently delivering superior service quality and customer value, and in embarking on changes and initiatives we strongly believe in,” said DNVPS managing director Tore Morten Wetterhus.
Winning in a broad award category for providers of support services in the maritime industry was also a major encouragement for a niche player like DNVPS, he added.
Some 400 shipping luminaries attended the Lloyd’s List Asia Awards and witnessed the presentation of 17 awards in total.
The winners were determined by a panel of influential shipping bodies, including Intertanko, the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners Association, the Singapore Maritime Foundation, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, the Korean Register of Shipping and Nippon Kaiji Kyokai.
“We’re very pleased to be judged favourably by such heavyweights in the industry. The Best Maritime Support Services Award spurs us to continue developing best practices in marine fuel management. It also strengthens our commitment to the DNV mission of safeguarding life, property and the environment for a sustainable future,” Mr Wetterhus said.
Besides DNVPS’ participation, DNV Maritime was also nominated for the Best Classification Society category at the Lloyd’s List Asia Awards.
