Well scheduled to the SMM event in hamburg last week Wärtsilä announce a joint venture between them and Turboden, Pratt & Whitney Power Systems company. The joint venture will combine Turboden ORC (Organic Rankin Cycle) technology and the Wärtsilä engine and as a result, the Wärtsilä ECC (Engine Combined Cycle) engine. The Wärtsilä Marine ECC provides a means of obtaining an efficient and reliable small-scale combined cycle system from the otherwise wasted energy recovered from downstream exhaust gas, and/or from the high-temperature cooling water. The Rankine Cycle is a thermodynamic cycle that converts heat into work energy.
This is clearly a step in meeting the market demand for reducing emissions and higher efficiency. Full article from Wartsilä could found here.
